-P.O.S.- Never Better 2009

Photobucket

P.O.S returns with Never Better, the follow up to 2006’s critically acclaimed Audtion. Written mostly in a moving car, P.O.S raps at full clip to ride rolling drums and revving distortion. There’s an urgency that he keeps in careful check, and then unleashes for spring-loaded verses that represent his best work. Never Better enters a room like bombshell with a black eye, badass, noisy, and impossible to ignore. Feedback and relentless drum rolls are only occasionally tempered by sung choruses and clean, chiming guitar lines.

With an unlikely punk rock past and an ever growing loyal hip hop fan base, P.O.S proves he is a rapper with range, a real musician and an unstoppable performer. Don’t mistake Never Better for some hybrid or some contrived crossover project because for P.O.S genres are as they ever were: permeable.

X-Clan - ‘Mainstream Outlawz’ (CD)2009

Photobucket

Nas may have proclaimed hip-hop is dead, but Brooklyn based X-Clan is here to let fans know good hip-hip is alive and well with the release of their new studio album “Mainstream Outlaws” on January 27th, 2009. This title defines the music and smashes the standard of what good hip-hop is all about; good music, content and timeless songs.

“We urge our listeners to stop complaining and start listening, because hip-hop is alive and well. It’s time for the underground to take the spotlight,” says X-Clan mastermind Brother J. “If you don’t take the time to learn the full spectrum of hip-hop, you can’t keep complaining that the game is tainted and off track. There are enough active artists out here that are keeping it real in the name of music and not fad. There are some independent groups that deserve respect for their grind and we are one of them.”

Joining X-Clan on their quest to bring hip-hop back to the roots of the genre with the aid some of the industry’s biggest lyrical assassins including Bun B of UGK, Medusa and Supanatural.

N.A.S.A. (Squeak E. Clean + DJ Zegon) - ‘Spirit Of Apollo’ (CD)

Photobucket

Where can you hear the sound of Kanye West and Santogold colliding? Or Tom Waits and Kool Keith? The story of N.A.S.A. (an acronym for North America/South America) goes back five and a half years when Squeak E. Clean (aka DJ/producer/composer Sam Spiegel, brother of director Spike Jonze) and DJ Zegon (aka DJ/producer/professional skateboarder Ze Gonzales) met in Sao Paulo, Brazil and were instantly drawn together over their mutual love for rare Brazilian funk and soul records. They decided to share their experience and create a record that similarly brought people together from different musical genres, races, religions, politics, countries and languages and ignoring these boundaries that keep people divided. In order to fully-realize their mission the two created some of the most unique musical pairings ever recorded, all within the backdrop of Brazilian funk. The result is The Spirit of Apollo, connecting people as diverse as David Byrne and Chuck D, or Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the latter two singing together on the late hip-hop star’s last known recorded track.
