ALL HER EXES is the byproduct of two of L.A.s most fascinating musical minds: Xololanxinxo (aka Juan Andameeleon), Akuma (aka Eddi Extacy) and Avatar One (aka Robert the Strange). They embarked on their symphonic sojourn in early 2010 during recording sessions in the interim of their numerous respective projects.

Sensing a lack of cohesion in the L.A. hip hop scene, Xinxo and Av sought an outlet for making music outside of the realm of their contemporaries. Pairing their musical know-how with passion for entertaining live performances and conceptually-based music, ALL HER EXES was born. Their songs seamlessly blend synth-pop with gothic, hip hop, industrial, dance and new wave to forge a low-end heavy sound that can be at times haunting, humorous, harrowing and ultimately, uplifting.

Xololanxinxo (Juan Andameeleon) is well-known as one-half of the pioneering group Of Mexican Descent as well as the creative force behind Toca. He is heralded as one of the original Good Life collective and has been active in the LA scene for the past two decades. Avatar One (Robert the Strange) has etched out an impressive resume as an emcee and producer, recording tracks with many of the undergrounds best and brightest over the past ten years while building a steady cult following with his solo work as well as a member of Wayward Saints and Speak Easy.

These musical veterans have prevailed through the trials of the L.A. streets to cultivate a unique sound that can simultaneously capture the dance mojo of the masses while bringing a unique perspective to independent music fiends.

Creating art from the ashes of a fragmented music scene and blurring the grey area between urban and popular culture, ALL HER EXES has come forth to bring everything back to where it needs to be. In the stacks of DJ crates, and in the hearts of the people. You can pick your copy up of All Her Exes over at Grimm Image Records.

SONGODSUNS (2mex & Nobody): Fallin’ Angels LP 2011

As of 00:01 this morning, the newest Songodsuns LP ‘Fallin’ Angels’ was released worldwide to long awaiting supporters and fans of Los Angeles’s underground hiphop duo 2mex and DJ Nobody. Earlier this month, LA Times covered “Do that trick” which was the first single off the new LP with this review “finds them channeling The Cure, “getting high in the park in Highland Park,” creating anti-”American Idol” art, meeting South Central sailorettes, and inventing new ways to pay the rent. Nobody creates a scuzzy minimalist banger that allows 2Mex an ideal canvas to “crank call Russell Simmons from Brussels.” A sure shot addition to your digital and physical collection!

Another name for Visionaries and Of Mexican Descent member 2Mex, Songodsuns first showed up in the mid-’90s when 2Mex and some friends, including DJ Nobody, got together to make a record. However, other commitments prevented an album from coming out, though a single, “Love Fights Back,” was released in 1999. Finally, between incessant touring, 2Mex was able to enlist help from producers Sa-Ra, KeyKool, Babu, Subtitle, and DJ Khalil, among others, and set about recording, using the moniker Songodsuns as a way to express his interest in other forms of music besides hip-hop (he admitted to being heavily influenced by They Might Be Giants, Elliott Smith, and the Cure). Over the Counter Culture, though it was definitely a rap album, boasted musical beats under 2Mex’s rough-voiced flow, and was issued on Up Above in 2005.
