Bay Area Independent Rap Legend Lyrics Born has joined forces with New York multimedia powerhouse Decon for the sake of quality trans-national hip-hop. The multi-faceted musician plans to release his third proper solo effort, As U Were on October 26th. The lead single “Lies x 3″ is an alt-tinged synth-rocker that is a sure shot summer banger.

Blending catchy pop-synth melodies and hooks, heavy guitar riffs, sticky bass, and windshield poppin’ beats, As U Were exemplifies LB’s most adventurous production to date. Coupled with his razor-sharp humor, rhythmic baritone, and signature melodic cadence, the new album is a jaw-dropping musical experience unlike any other. Familiar fans will appreciate classic collaborations with Gift of Gab and Joyo Velarde, as well as an overdue reunion with Lateef. He also draws on the talent of recently celebrated acts such as Trackademicks, Sam Sparro and Francis and The Lights. Even beat impresarios Jake One and Headnodic snag co-production credits, hammering out beats alongside LB’s in-house team of stage musicians, the ever-funky and ambidextrous Lyrics Born Mixed Re-View.

In an emblematic and celebrated career spanning a decade, Lyrics Born has built his name, reputation, and expansive international fanbase by continually forging ahead into uncharted territory, both musically and otherwise. As a musician he has been responsible for some of the most memorable and innovative independent hits and albums of the past decade, both as a solo artist, as a member of Latyrx and as a founder of Quannum Projects, the seminal independent label he reared with DJ Shadow, Blackalicious and Lateef.

Noticing the industry shift towards digital content, the visionary entrepreneur developed one of the first artist-owned and operated internet television sites, LBTV, and the first artist-owned and operated internet radio site, LBFM. Years later, at the pinnacle of the music industry’s transformation, LB has maintained his position as one of the most successful independent Hip-Hop artists of all time. As U Were will further solidify this status. In a truly modern and unprecedented new partnership, Lyrics Born and his label Mobile Home Recordings will retain the rights to all content, including recorded masters. “I’m so excited about this right now,” LB gushes. “I’m proud and flattered to be in league with such a long-standing and creative team that understands my vision.”

“I have been a fan of Lyrics Born since the days of Latyrx and we are thrilled to add him to our diverse roster here,” Peter Bittenbender, president of Decon says. “Throughout his expansive career, he has consistently exceeded his fans’ expectations when it comes to creativity, sound, and presentation. We look forward to continue pushing those boundaries with what we hope will be the first of many collaborations”

The_Foreign_Exchange-Authenticity-2010-

Picking up where their 2008 Grammy-nominated “Leave It All Behind” set left off, “Authenticity” is the group’s most diverse work to date, with a tight, 11-track song cycle spanning the duo’s trademark brand of lush electronic soul, to stripped down acoustic pieces that recall the heyday of 70’s singer-songwriter driven folk.

Lead single “Maybe She’ll Dream Of Me” is a playful, synth-driven hip-hop groove featuring a rapped verse from Phonte that evokes the band’s “Connected” era, while the epic opener “The Last Fall” finds Phonte singing some of his most cynical lyrics to date (”Love is at worst an excuse/at best it’s a truce…”) over a frenzied Nicolay production jammed with layers of strings, guitars, and dense choral harmonies.

“I think every band reaches that point when they come into their own and find a sound that is distinctively theirs,” says Phonte in reference to the album’s title. “The title refers to me and Nic’s journey to find our own unique space within this vast musical landscape. The biggest challenge as a musician is to find that ‘thing’ that makes you who you are. But I think we’re getting there, and we’re finding our way more and more with each record.”

Kno (of Cunninlynguists) death Is Silent CD) 2010

Escrito em 11 de Outubro de 2010 por Maestro

Photobucket

Death Is Silent, the solo debut from CunninLynguists’ producer and emcee Kno, is set to be released on October 12th 2010. While handling nearly all of CL’s production since the group’s inception in 2001, his emceeing has more recently taken a backseat to his beats — and it has shown. Fueled by Kno’s lush production techniques, A Piece of Strange currently ranks as the #8 release of 2005 (and the only hip-hop release in the Top 30) at high traffic web community RateYourMusic.com, Dirty Acres was awarded “Album Of The Year” honors by UndergroundHipHop.com for 2007 and both of 2009’s compilation releases, Strange Journey Volume One and Two, were given “Top Ten Albums” honors at 2DopeBoyz.com.

After amassing only 4 verses over the CunninLynguists’ last four releases, the Atlanta-based artist is set to step out from behind the boards on Death Is Silent, both producing the entirety of the record and handling the majority of the vocals. The record’s concept involves the inevitability of death and its impact on love, life, family and friends. The artwork was realized by Argentinian visual artist Diego Fernandez.

Kno will still see plenty of activity on the production side of things, as the next 6 months will see the release of Oneirology, CunninLynguists’ newest studio album in 3 years, Chico and The Man, the long-awaited concept album with fellow QN5 Music artist and longtime friend Tonedeff as well as MacheteVision, a joint project with emcee Marq Spekt.

While all of these releases will be produced entirely by Kno, his production will also be featured on upcoming projects by Freddie Gibbs, 9th Wonder signee Tom Hardy as well as the album Niggaz With Latitude, a group project from CL’s own Deacon The Villain and Sheisty Khrist.

Group Home is widely considered one of the most important groups to come out of hip-hop’s revered “golden age.” Recognized as originators in the culture, Group Home (cumulative career scans over 150,000 units), have proven over their 20 + year career that they are a force to be reckoned with. And with one of the most distinct and unique voices in all of Hip-Hop, Dap and Group Home are poised to pass on their knowledge, experience and passion, from the 80’s and 90’s into the second decade of the millenium.
