Slum_Village-Villa_Manifesto-2010-

Detroit rap collective Slum Village seized the underground hip hop scene in the 90’s with their first album, Fantastic Vol. 1. The trio, which then consisted of Baatin, T3, and Jay Dee, united with some of hip hp’s supreme emcees such as Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and Pete Rock. In 2001, Jay Dee, also known as J Dilla, left the group to pursue a solo career, and ELZhi was introduced. A couple of years later, Baatin fell ill while touring in France and departed. T3 and ELZhi went on to record music together under the reputable moniker, Slum Village, before tragedy struck.

In February 2006, after being diagnosed with TIP and lupus, Jay Dee passed away. Two years later, T3 announced that Baatin would be returning to the group and collaborating on a new Slum Village album. Unfortunately, tragedy struck a second time, this time taking the life of Baatin in July of 2009. Through the group’s misfortune, Slum Village remains. Villa Manifesto, the latest installment, showcases all past, present and future members at their lyrical best. Judging from the Buzz that was createdfrom the digital EP release in late 2009, this LP will take its place as a classic in the realm of authentic hip hop.

EX2 aka E Times Two
Profile:
Circa 1993, Vyrus, Syndrome, Origin, Digit 6, & Regret formed the Whittier, California group, Endangered Elements. Soon after, they officially made their first appearances on the underground cassette, NOISE, a one-sided tape entirely produced by Awol One. The crew credits read, EE, which eventually in future releases became EX2 aka E Times Two. It wasn’t until 94-95 when Dust Off & Gel One aka Gel Roc were introduced to the crew and added to the roll call. After a slew of crew guest appearances on compilations, open mics, & shows, they went into the studio to record their first EP titled, LMNTL Work in 1998. While Origin left the crew shortly thereafter to deal with life’s trials. Syn crossed paths with Whittier producer, Sirk, who assumed the reigns of the crew and created Abolano Records.

In 2000, E Times Two released their widely acclaimed full length album, Undersounds of the 562, which featured guest appearances by Tommy V & Awol One. By that time, the crew identity was primarily Syn, Vyrus, & Gel; Digit and Regret focused on a sub-group that never came to fruition due to Digit’s incarceration while Dust Off branched out to pursue other musical avenues. In 2002, the mainstays of the crew released their next full length installment, Nemesis. After a 5 year hiatus, Gel Roc brought the crew together to commence a new album produced entirely by sinister beat maker, Mascaria. Already ahead of their time considering their source of hip hop on the west coast, their own established sound, and following; it was a forgone conclusion that with the timing of this record along with Mascaria’s unique style of production would result in a classic album slated for a June 2010 release date appropriately titled, Resurgence.

Recharged is an album produced entirely by well known Los Angeles producer Cook Classics. Featuring a who’s who of up and coming artists, primarily, though not exclusively, from the bubbling L.A. independent scene.

Self-taught in the art of production, Cook Classics versatile style easily blends sharp parts of raw East Coast boom-bap with a breezy relaxed soulful West Coast vibe and a refreshing aura of musicality that exceeds Hip Hop. Born and raised in New York, he discovered a passion for music production in college, and moved to Los Angeles after graduation. An L.A. resident with Big Apple roots, Cook has influences from two of the world’s most unique and musically rich destinations. Those cities helped form his ability to seamlessly blend together the sampling elements of live instrumentation and precise vocal arrangements. Cook shows a level of originality and scope that clearly distinguishs him as one of the next major producers in music.

An important member of the colorful new L.A. Hip Hop scene, Cook has performed and been showcased along with fellow rising production stars Exile DiBiase and Flying Lotus. Quickly establishing himself as one of the most important beat makers in town, Cook has worked with Hip Hop duo U-N-I and Inverse, as well as produce an acclaimed full-length project with emcee Noah King Nieve. Besides his work with the up and coming artists, Cook has also attracted attention from industry veterans and established stars like MC Lyte, Chali2Na (of Jurassic 5), Diamond D, Wordsworth and Atlantic Records artist Mistah Fab.

Recharged features appearances by Pacific Division, Freddie Gibbs (One of XXL Magazine’s featured 2010 Freshmen), Outasight, Diz Gibran, TiRon, Sean Price, Amanda Diva, Sha Stimuli, Tunji, Ayomari, Aloe Blacc, Emilio Rojas, Avriel Epps and more.

Currensy-Pilot_Talk-2010-

O álbum fecha com a elegante “Under the Scope”.

1. “Example”
2. “Audio Dope 2?
3. “King Kong”
4. “Seat Change” (featuring Snoop Dogg)
5. “Breakfast”
6. “Roasted” (featuring Trademark Da Skydiver & Young Roddy)
7. “Skybourne” (featuring Smoke DZA & Big K.R.I.T.)
8. “The Hangover” (featuring Mikey Rocks)
