The_Beatnuts-The_Originators-Retail-2002-

Product Description:
The sixth full length broadcast from Junkyard Ju Ju and Psycho Les aka The Beatnuts is a lesson in braggadocio party hip hop. In the finest tradition of New York hip hop, the Queen’s duo utilise minimal grooves to maximum effect. “Yae Yo” is typical, opening with a slice of Debbie Harry before winding down the turntable to make room for a funky as you like flute loop, while the hand claps and Bootsy inspired low end theory of “Routine” are dirtier than the 2 Live Crew in full lyrical flow. “Ya Better Believe” fail to dent the Beatnuts ability to bend a sing-a-long hook around a groove so infectious it clamps to the subconscious with the tenacity of a pitbull. Beatnuts never make wack music and never fail to get the party started!

DJ Rrevolution - In 12” s We Trust (2000)

Another turntablism classic, this time from DJ Revolution. i don’t think this is his best release because I really enjoyed “Adventures in High Fidelity”. That one will also be coming this week likely. For now though, get familiar with this one. DJ Revolution features a number of guests on this album, both on mic and on the decks. You’ll see that the Beat Junkie family is well represented. It also features Craze, Chino XL, Spinbad, Defari and others. No shortage of talent on this release and it shows in the quality. Enjoy!!!

UHB5 - Legacy 2099 2002

DESCRIPTION
You know, it seems like every week Sunspot has something else released. Props to this guy for dropping shit left and right for us to hear. In 2002 it was Unsigned and Hella Broke Volume 5. And for all those who don’t know, Sunspot drops almost all of the production on these releases. A lot of cuts which are dope and a few cuts that feature all the Legends and others. But there are some Legends on every cut, that is, unless it’s an instrumental. There are a couple of those tucked into here. This album is dope. Just like the previous four UHB releases. Get it. Legends baby!!!!

Masterminds is a New York rhyme team, comprised of Oracle, Kimani, and Epod, a trio of rappers who met as students at Wesleyan University in 1994. They are a throwback to the late-’80s hip-hop era, but at the same time they offer a futuristic lyrical presentation that is quite refreshing. Masterminds released Underground Railroad, their debut album, in 2000, followed two years later by Stone Planet.

Carlos_Nino_and_Lil_Sci_Present-Whats_The_Science_Elevation-2008-FTD

Escrito em 25 de Abril de 2008 por Maestro

An incredible new project from Carlos Nino — a hip hop effort, but one that’s got the same deeply spiritual vibe as his jazz productions! Lyrics and vocals are by Lil Sci, who appears to be a great companion for Nino on this unique musical journey — and the music is from Carlos and other members of his cosmic jazz posse — including Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Ammoncontact, and The Life Force Trio! Most tracks have a mix of live instrumentation and beats, but in a way that’s got the same depth as Nino’s work with Build An Ark — and the record features guest performances from Dwight Trible, Nate Morgan, and Tiffany Paige. Titles include “Freedom” — a great remake of Pharoah Sanders’ classic “We Gotta Have Freedom” — plus “Constant”, “Love Hugs & Hip Hop Soul”, “The Right Song”, “The Natural/Scriptures”, “Higher”, “Circulate”, and “What’s the Science”.

The_Roots-Rising_Down-2008

Grammy award winning hip-hop trailblazers The Roots are set to release Rising Down on April 29th via Def Jam Recordings. Known for their prolific lyrics and live instrumentation, the Legendary Philadelphia crew is composed of Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter (vocals), Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson (drums), Kamal Gray (keyboards), Frank Knuckles (percussion), Kirk “Captain Kirk” Douglas (guitar) and Owen Biddle (bass). Garnering critical praise throughout their career, The Roots have firmly established themselves as a band with uncompromised artistic control and integrity. With Rising Down, the band’s 10th album release, The Roots continue to take bolder steps adding new depths and range to their repertoire. The Roots co-founder ?uestlove states, “This is probably our most political album to date dealing with addiction, nihilism, hypocritical double standards in the prison system and overall life in Philadelphia. I’d say it’s more mature and intense than all of our efforts but not a ‘downer’ as most people expect us to do.” The political nature of Rising Down is not only heard within the music. The title comes from William T. Vollmann’s treatise on violence entitled Rising Up and Rising Down, and the release date falls on the 16th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots sparked by the acquittal of the police officers accused of beating Rodney King. Standout tracks include: “Criminal” a reflection of life on the streets and unjust persecution, “I Will Not Apologize” a tribute to Fela Kuti that discusses keeping dignity in the music biz and “I Can’t Help It” a look at addictions and urges that compel us all. The pop-infused first single- “Birthday Girl”- features Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump. Additional guests on the album include Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saigon, Dice Raw, Wale, Chrisette Michele and more.

Included in this package is a limited edition ?uestlove Afro Pick promoting Rising Down, and automatic entry into an UGHH exclusive contest to win some choice Roots Autographed merchandise that you can’t get anywhere else.
